I’m With Her
Wild and Clear and Blue (Rounder Records)
The swirling harmonies and eddying rhythm of Wild and Clear and Blue, I’m With Her’s second album, envelop us completely, transporting us airily into a lush forest of sound. The trio, Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan, Sara Watkins, inhabits the sonic space of each song on the album, living within the notes and between the notes, folding into or floating above or below one another’s vocals, and allowing instruments and vocals to breathe as the songs unfold. may be the perfect album for our time, for it carries us into a peaceful place where we can luxuriate in the gorgeous sounds all around us and where we can reflect on memories of family, friends, and community. Let’s Party About It (Compass Records)
Leftover Salmon are no strangers to a good time. After all, the Colorado-based progressive bluegrass band have been entertaining audiences for over thirty-five years, continually infusing a genuine festival-like atmosphere into their seemingly endless run of convivial live engagements. Though the sextet have mostly built their staid reputation on their wildly stimulating concerts, it can also be argued that their studio counterparts are just as formidable. Featuring an all-star cast of guest musicians and an eclectic mix of brand-new original material that traverses a broad musical spectrum. Eschewing the usual method of bringing in individually-penned compositions, most often either by Drew Emmitt or Vince Herman, the band instead joined forces with songwriter Aaron Raitiere for a group songwriting session that achieves (mostly) successful results.
