Blues Grass (MoMojo Records)
Arlen, the “Master of the Telecaster,” began his long music career at the tender age of nine. In 1970, his band performed at the 1st Annual Woodstock Reunion Concert, and soon after he moved to the town of Woodstock. Since those early days, he has traveled the world, performing and recording with countless acts such as Simon & Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, John Prine, and The Bee Gees, just to name a few. Releasing numerous guitar-centric albums over many years. On Blues Grass Arlen is joined by a young bluegrass group, The Rank & File Band. They run through a bunch of bluegrass standards, frequently stretching out the solos sometimes with added drums. All in all, it’s a nice collection that guitar fans would enjoy.

Sittin’ With Blaze: A Tribute To Blaze Foley (Lost Art Records)
The Arkansas-born songsmith made his way to Austin in the late Seventies, befriending Townes Van Zandt and becoming a rowdy fixture at bar stages before he was shot in 1989. A decade later, Lost Art Records released Live at the Austin Outhouse and several posthumous albums since. In the intervening years, label co-founder Craig McDonald has heard Foley’s peers acknowledge his impact and watched his songs reach a new generation of ears. “Recognition and legacy has been growing among contemporary artists too, people covering songs, talking about Blaze,” McDonald says. He began “herding cool cats,” as McDonald puts it, including Phosphorescent, Lucy Dacus, John Moreland, Joshua Ray Walker, Uncle Lucius and others. The album closes with a finale from Foley’s longtime friend Lucinda Williams, singing “If I Could Only Fly.” (edited from Austin Chronicle review)
