Americana Music Releases for Nov. 18th

Here’s some the best Americana and roots-type music releases for November 18th, 2022. Click the artist or album links to find out more. The artist’s names link to their websites and the CD title links go to either Amazon, iTunes, Bandcamp or the artist’s site for ordering or downloading.  A + sign means although not a featured release, it’s a notable album that’s still worth checking out.  Also, this page will be updated as I find out about other new releases so check back again.

Melissa Carper
Ramblin’ Soul
(MAE Music)

It’s tempting to label Melissa Carper as some sort of retro revivalist. She is, after all, an artist that retains a deep reverence for country’s past precepts. That was evident with her debut LP, Daddy’s Country Gold, an album that not only garnered her added attention, but a new nickname as well — “Hill Billie Holiday.” She’s sassy and seductive as they come, a diehard devotee of classic country and other forms of archival Americana as well. There’s a decided sense of wanderlust that surges through the set as a whole, which not only inspired the album’s title, but also the footloose freedom that enabled Carper to breach a few boundaries, giving each of these tracks lives of their own. Billy Strings
Me/and/Dad
(Rounder Records)

According to a press statement, the album is “the product of a longtime dream” and it “features new versions of fourteen bluegrass and country classics that Strings and his father, Terry Barber, have been playing together since Strings was a young child.” Of the new project, Strings says, “As long as I can remember, I wanted to make a record with my dad. It’s been a bucket list thing for me, something I’ve been afraid I wouldn’t find the time to do. And that scared me; not doing this record scared me.” In addition to Strings and Barber, the album features an all-star band including  Ron and Rob McCoury, fiddler Michael Cleveland as well as special guest appearances by Jerry Douglas, Jason Carter and Strings’ mother, Debra Barber, who sings on the final track, ‘I Heard My Mother Weeping.’” (edited from American Songwriter review)
