Americana Music Releases for Sept. 9th

Here’s some the best Americana and roots-type music releases for September 9th, 2022. Click the artist or album links to find out more. The artist’s names link to their websites and the CD title links go to either Amazon, iTunes, Bandcamp or the artist’s site for ordering or downloading.  A + sign means although not a featured release, it’s a notable album that’s still worth checking out.  Also, this page will be updated as I find out about other new releases so check back again.

Charley Crockett
The Man From Waco  (Son of Davy Records)

Just a few months after releasing his latest covers record, Jukebox Charley, this new original album keeps up with his prolific two-albums-per-year clip. Crockett is certainly not hurting for recorded content, but there are quite a few things that will make The Man from Waco unique from his previous releases. First, he goes with the man who has been managing him for a while now, Bruce Robison. Also making the album unique, Crockett recorded it entirely with his backing band The Blue Drifters as opposed to bringing in auxiliary players and Crockett writes or co-writes all 14 tracks.“Everybody was telling me: “go right, go right, go right,’” says Crockett. “I went left. I had to hold on to what has gotten me this far.” As for working with Robison, Crockett says, “I just wanted an honest partnership: do it at your place, live to tape, everybody in the room. The magic is in the performances on that tape. That’s what Bruce wanted to do, that’s what I wanted to do.” Charley Crockett just continues to follow his gut, and it’s gotten him pretty far.  (edited from Saving Country Music review)

I Draw Slow
I Draw Slow (Compass Records)

I Draw Slow is one Americana’s most interesting bands, blending traditional Irish and American Appalachian influences into a signature brew that has earned them ardent fans on both sides of the Atlantic. Fronted by brother/sister songwriting team Dave Holden and Louise Holden this Dublin, Ireland-based group sits squarely at the crossroads of Irish and Appalachian music and has received critical praise for an original sound that bridges the gap between traditional Irish and American roots music. But their experiences during the pandemic turned out to be musically transformative and helped to shape an album that shows tremendous musical growth and yields some surprising, and extremely satisfying, musical results.
